About TAG VHS
Date of inauguration - 6th March 2011
The TAG VHS Diabetes Research Centre will be introducing, for the first time in India a new paradigm in Medical Research in clinical diabetes and its co-morbid conditions; focus will be on "outcomes research, out side the world of Randomised controlled drug trials (RCT) that have now fallen into disrepute, as they are invariably controlled by commercial and vested interests, as shown in successive editorials and analytical articles in almost all the recent issues of various prestigious peer - reviewed journals like the Lancet, British Medical Journal, The New England Journal of Medicine and many others.
The efforts of Late Prof. Rustom Roy and Prof.B.M.Hegde resulted in the emergence of a new Super-Peer reviewed Medical Journal Viz The Journal of the Science of Healing Outcomes with an editorial board of highly acclaimed Scientists and medical researchers
The work to be done at the TAG-VHS Diabetes Research Centre will be published periodically in this international journal which is also available electronically(www.thejsho.com)

The concept of a 40-bed Diabetes and Medical Research unit incorporating, ancient medical wisdom of India, with modern electronic informatics technology specially tailored for scientific authentication, was conceptualized and presented at a meeting organised by the VHS Diabetes Department, in March 2009. There was a spontaneous and magnificent philanthropic response, to this proposal by the many friends and donors of the VHS Diabetes Department. The project and Central Committee of the VHS cleared the proposal within a few months and the Bhoomi Puja for the TAG-VHS Diabetes Research Centre was performed in October 2009. The actual civil work began around January 2010 by CRN, the renowned architects. On completion of the civil structure, the Dhanvanthri Puja, was performed on Dec 12, 2010. In many ways this was a unique and successful effort which was due to the whole hearted support and co-operation of our many friends and Donors and the entire administration of VHS. The centre was named TAG-VHS Diabetes Research Centre, as per the wish of the first Patron Donor who initiated the process, and was later joined by other Patron Donors and many many more munificient donors who together made our dream of the State of the art Research Centre, come true.

RESEARCH PROJECTS

The Proposed research centre will have 40 beds with infrastructure for 50% free medical service and 10 special rooms, to cater to the different economic sections of the society. There will be a two-bed intensive care unit, only for emergencies arising out of the admitted cases. The admission to this centre will be strictly screened by the research team of the TAG-VHS Diabetes Research Centre.

This Concept was inspired by the experiences of Prof. K.S.Sanjivi (Voluntary Health Services), Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus (Grameen Bank) and The Kaiser Permanente (Californian Health Care Provider) USA.

6. IMPACT OF MODEL WELLNESS ADVICE CENTRE

A Careful documentation and continuous monitoring of persons enrolled for this programme will help us to analyze and evaluate its efficacy in improving, the body's own immune system and avoidance of chemical and other interventions. This will be a long-term research model with enrolment of only those willing to try this for a minimum period of 2 years

The Electronic infrastructure and interface has been specially customized for this Research Centre by HEALTHTRACK INFO SOLUTIONS PVT.LTD. and gifted free of cost to the Centre. This Electronic Medical Informatics technology will enable continuous monitoring of our multi-modal Medical & Health Care model, with in-built features of quality, security, safety and cost-effectivity. The clinical, laboratory, imaging and all other data will be analyzed periodically over the next two years and the scientifically authenticated outcomes of the treatment with the various systems of healing viz. Modern medicine, Ayurveda, Energy Medicine and Homeopathy in various illnesses including Diabetes and its complications, and all other related co-morbid conditions.

This Innovative system is powered by HEALTHTRACK INFO SOLUTIONS PVT.LTD.

We have taken care to ensure that modern medical management will be sans invasive technology and lay special emphasis on appropriate and safe drug usages, early detection of adverse drug reactions (ADR), drug side effects with immediate remedial measures. Ayurvedic approach to Lifestyle will be undertaken under the guidance of Ayurveda Ratna, Vaidya Ratna Dr.K.S.Viswanatha Sarma, one of the senior most exponents of Ayurveda. The important points to note are that these systems are already accepted and used by the people at large but have never been scientifically and comparatively analyzed & published. Energy medicine using pulsed Electromagnetic Therapy for various conditions will be evaluated in a variety of clinical conditions including type 1 & 2 diabetes, coronary artery disease, cerebra vascular stroke etc. for the first time in the world. Prof.B.M.Hegde is the pioneer who had introduced this 2 years ago in India (Chennai, Mangalore, Pune) and Dr.C.V.Krishnaswami have considerable experience in the use of this device which is totally noninvasive, safe and highly efficacious.

Prof.B.M.Hegde will run a Model wellness Advice Centre for preserving human health, understanding nature's repair mechanisms and preventing un-warranted medical or mechanical interventions and take all preventive steps to avoid / ameliorate chronic metabolic/medical diseases through life style mechanisms of diet, exercise, yoga (including the versatile Pranayamam and certain asanas), meditation and mind control
etc. He will be personally supervising the Wellness Centre's activities. He is keen that these aspects of lifestyle should be included and inculcated starting from young minds in the Schools, so that 'health' (and not disease) becomes the quotient for the generation next. Our present concept of outcomes' medical research focuses on health and the treatment of illness with continuity, quality, safety & Cost effectivity as the 4 pillars on which we can build the health of the society, the community at large, and hopefully snowballing to a national as well as International movement for providing Inclusively affordable healthcare for humanity.

We have the good fortune to have the services & advice of highly distinguished, dedicated, unimpeachable & renowned ethical committee headed by Dr. M. S. Swaminathan, Chairman, MSSRF, to guide us properly in our various research endeavors, at every stage.

Our Centre will have specialist nurses and support personnel for research documentation, ethical practices & statistical analysis. There will be a nurses training Programme in diabetes Management including emergencies, cardiac care, Intensive care, elderly care, Palliative care (Including pain management) etc as a 6 months structured modules. The emphasis in all these aspects of Medical Management will be on using "Relatively Safe drugs" and supplemented by other modalities which will ensure least damage to the non linear human body physiology.
